Selecting Your Mirrors

Most states now require you install supplementary mirrors for hauling trailers. To comply you will need to install them on both sides of your towing vehicle.
You will want these anyway, as the first time changing lanes or backing your trailer can be a very "blind" experience without additional mirrors.
It is recommended to use convex mirrors to minimize blind spots. It is generally advised to select mirrors one inch in diameter for every ten feet of length. This means the combination of your vehicle and trailer. For example if your total length is 42 feet, don't scrimp, go for the five inch mirrors. The more mirror, the safer and more convenient it will be.
For an easy method of adjusting your mirrors, just line your trailer and vehicle straight and while behind the wheel, adjust the drivers side mirror until you can see the tail end of your trailer and about 150-200 feet beyond. Have someone adjust the passenger side for you as you sight down that side. Now you should be good to go!
